The final book of The Great Library series begins with the Archivist out of power however still very dangerous. He and his loyal soldiers are plotting to retake the Great Library. Jess and his friends not only have to go after the Archivist but also defend the Great Library from the outside nations who have their ships nearby. Just like the other books in the series, the group is scattered about handling multiple of issues at one time. It is also full of action from the very beginning to the satisfying conclusion. I will miss these characters! This is the fourth in the Great Library series where Jess Brightwell and his friends are trying to save the Great Library from itself and the power-hungry Archivist Magister. They come up with a dangerous plan to bring down the leadership. The action begins at the very beginning and does not let up at all. Each chapter has a different point a view which allows the characters to be scattered about. Fans of this dystopian series will love this book and year for the fifth installment. Cia Vale survived the Testing and is starting her freshman year at the University in Tosu City. Although the government tried to erase the memories of all survivors of the Testing, Cia remembers. She and Tomas try to expose the cruelty of the Testing, however, the government is keeping her on tight leash. Although this sequel is not as action-packed as The Testing, there is plenty of suspense. Once again, Cia finds herself in a situation where she doesn't know who can truly trust. Also, it is clear that they government has a close eye on her: they gave her an almost impossible course-load, they are tracking her movements, and her internship is with the President. It took me a bit of time to get into this novel as Cia was getting settled, however it does pick up during the "initiation." Dystopian literature fans will enjoy the continuing adventures of Cia Vale. This fast-action and suspense-filled novel reads like a typical James Patterson novel. President Jonathan Duncan finds himself on the verge of being impeached after reports of him corresponding with a known terrorist. What the public and key lawmakers does not know, he is trying to save the country from having a computer virus unleashed destroying every computer and network system. He suspects that someone close to him is leaking information to the terrorist, so he doesn't know who to trust. To clear his name and save the nation, he must go missing... Don't take the short chapters for granted. Just like any James Patterson novel, you can't read just one short chapter. Each one ends with a hook that yanks you into the next one. The next thing you know, is that you've read half the book! I don't know how "realistic" it is, however, it was a fun read. Those who are interested in politics and suspense thrillers will enjoy this novel. This takes place in the future after the world is changed after a devastating world war. Much of the land is uninhabitable and people are now living in colonies. Cia is one of the few in her colony to be selected for the Testing. If she passes, she will be eligible to attend the University. So it is a big deal to be selected. The Testing is not just a written exam. It is a series of tests that examines their knowledge, decision-making skills, leadership, and survival skills. People have died during the Testing. After its completion, participants have their memories of their experiences wiped. I am not a big dystopian fiction fan. However, I could not put this book down. The last test was especially nail-biting. I strongly recommend this book especially to those who liked The Giver, Divergent, and other dystopian novels. The second book in Caine's The Great Library series begins where the first book ended. Jess Brightwell and his friends have received their assignments, however, they are all wondering about the fate of Thomas. Did the Library kill him or is he being held prisoner? Jess is also worried about Morgan up in the Iron Tower. As they search for the truth, they must keep a watchful eye about getting discovered and the deadly automata. The characters are what drew me back to this series. It is also full of twists and nail-biting scenes. I can't wait to read Ash and Quill. Lord Blackheart is a supervillian causing havoc on his nemesis, Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and the Institution of Law Enforcement for the kingdom. One day Nimona, a young girl, suggests he make her his sidekick. Lord Blackheart is hesitant to say the least at the idea until he sees she has the ability to shapeshift. Full of action, this graphic novel is full of surprises. Teens who are fans of superheros and graphic novels will love this book! This is the sequel to Caraval and this book lives up to the expectations of the first. Once you open up the book, it is hard to put down.
Legend has decided to hold another Caraval. Scarlett and her sister Donatella decide to return. This time it is Tella who is determined to play the game. This time the game entails finding their lost mother who is trapped in a card of the Fates. There is romance, magic, and of course danger throughout the novel. I strongly recommend this book to those who enjoyed the first and enjoy magical dark adventures. |
