Grindelwald has escaped. Professor Dumbledore has asked Newt Scamander to help stop Grindelwald in his quest to rule over all non-magical beings. Of course, Tina and Queenie Goldstein and Jacob Kowalski enter in the mix. This was a fun read illustrated with fantastic line art by Minalima. The camera shot directions are interesting as well. Harry Potter fans are probably all ready all over this as well as the movies.

The final book of The Great Library series begins with the Archivist out of power however still very dangerous. He and his loyal soldiers are plotting to retake the Great Library. Jess and his friends not only have to go after the Archivist but also defend the Great Library from the outside nations who have their ships nearby. Just like the other books in the series, the group is scattered about handling multiple of issues at one time. It is also full of action from the very beginning to the satisfying conclusion. I will miss these characters! This is the fourth in the Great Library series where Jess Brightwell and his friends are trying to save the Great Library from itself and the power-hungry Archivist Magister. They come up with a dangerous plan to bring down the leadership. The action begins at the very beginning and does not let up at all. Each chapter has a different point a view which allows the characters to be scattered about. Fans of this dystopian series will love this book and year for the fifth installment. Cia Vale survived the Testing and is starting her freshman year at the University in Tosu City. Although the government tried to erase the memories of all survivors of the Testing, Cia remembers. She and Tomas try to expose the cruelty of the Testing, however, the government is keeping her on tight leash. Although this sequel is not as action-packed as The Testing, there is plenty of suspense. Once again, Cia finds herself in a situation where she doesn't know who can truly trust. Also, it is clear that they government has a close eye on her: they gave her an almost impossible course-load, they are tracking her movements, and her internship is with the President. It took me a bit of time to get into this novel as Cia was getting settled, however it does pick up during the "initiation." Dystopian literature fans will enjoy the continuing adventures of Cia Vale.
This takes place in the future after the world is changed after a devastating world war. Much of the land is uninhabitable and people are now living in colonies. Cia is one of the few in her colony to be selected for the Testing. If she passes, she will be eligible to attend the University. So it is a big deal to be selected. The Testing is not just a written exam. It is a series of tests that examines their knowledge, decision-making skills, leadership, and survival skills. People have died during the Testing. After its completion, participants have their memories of their experiences wiped. I am not a big dystopian fiction fan. However, I could not put this book down. The last test was especially nail-biting. I strongly recommend this book especially to those who liked The Giver, Divergent, and other dystopian novels. The second book in Caine's The Great Library series begins where the first book ended. Jess Brightwell and his friends have received their assignments, however, they are all wondering about the fate of Thomas. Did the Library kill him or is he being held prisoner? Jess is also worried about Morgan up in the Iron Tower. As they search for the truth, they must keep a watchful eye about getting discovered and the deadly automata. The characters are what drew me back to this series. It is also full of twists and nail-biting scenes. I can't wait to read Ash and Quill. Scarlett, escaping an abusive father and an arranged marriage, goes with her sister Tella to Caraval, a mysterious carnival that centers around a puzzle to solve. Before they even set foot inside, Tella is kidnapped. Scarlett realizes that the game is find Tella and the organizer of Caraval, Legend. Scarlett is helped by a sailor named Julian. Caraval only happens at night but is full of magic and illusions. Can Scarlett save her sister? Who is this mysterious Legend? This exciting novel is full of surprises. Like Scarlett, the reader must remember that this is all a game because what may seem real may not, but then again, perhaps it is... |
